Physiological causes

Traumatic causes
• Mechanical injury: Excessive sexual activity, trauma, etc. may cause vaginal damage and cause pain.
• Perineal injury: Childbirth, trauma, etc. may cause perineal tears or damage, which may cause vaginal pain.
Other causes
• Psychological factors: Tension, anxiety, or discomfort with sexual behavior may cause the body to tighten, causing pain.
• Allergic reaction: Allergies to certain ingredients in products such as condoms and lubricants, or allergies to certain products used on the vulva, may also cause pain.
